Welcome Back!

It seems like yesterday that we were saying goodbye for the summer. A few weeks of playing in the sun has now past and we are ready for a new school year. Charged up and ready to take the leap to the high school. I am excited to return to school this year and very excited for all of the possibilities this year can bring! This is going to be a great year that will be full of new experiences and feelings.

This year, you and your parents will use this website to stay connected to what is going on in class. In addition to this site, you will also use Edmodo.com. You should go there and sign up for an account now...infact, it is your homework for the first night of school.
Your homework’s will be posted on edmodo; you will have assignments, schedules, movies to preview, etc on this site. You should visit this site once a day at least. In class I will announce any changes to the site, but you must still pay attention to the directions given in class as well as the site.

If for any reason, you do not have access to the website from home, there are multiple opportunities to view the site in school, at the library, or at a friend’s house.

Also, you may want to take this opportunity to join the Google group that I set up for this class. The address is here. This is a place where we can have discussion, or I can answer questions for a larger group through the discussion board.

Your freshman year really sets the tone for what you are going to do here for the next four years. Come in focused and ready to learn and you will succeed. See you on Tuesday!

Remember dont cram Wednesday night, take chunks of the work and put them together.

 Please make sure that you bring a working calculator with extra batteries and two sharp number 2 pencils. We will not have any calculators or batteries for you, so make sure you are prepared.

Here We Go.

The final weeks at school always feel like the end of a roller coaster ride. We have gone through the unfamiliar beginning of waiting in line and getting in the coaster car, which is the beginning of September. We then do a long climb which is October to about winter holiday time. We then go down a huge hill, and have all sorts of twists and turns and maybe a flip or two which brings us from the holidays up until maybe May or so. At the end of the ride, we hit the last few ups and downs that make our stomach feel funny, and then we pull back into the station and hit the breaks and we are allowed free.
At this point we are rolling into the station. You are thinking about all we did while pulling at the lap bar trying to escape so you could run free to jump on the next ride. The last few feet are as important as the first few, if you were to leave the ride early, or jump off of the car, you would not have the same experience as someone who rode it all the way out and you might regret that. Please make sure that you stick with the rest of us and ride into the station house and get out with the rest.

All of this is said to make sure that you stick with us, and make sure you work on everything that we have going forward. The review for the exam should start today (Tuesday), so that we have enough time to get everything done. Please make sure you are an active participant in the review.

This is the last call for any work you may have to turn in to me. Your grades will be pretty much finalized this weekend. I will accept late work till Wednesday, but not after that.

Use this week to avoid the heat by sitting in the AC and prepping for your finals. They should not stress you out, you should go into them like any other school day as long as you prepare before hand.

If you want to start looking at topics that will be on the test. This is a good document to look at. More or less, all of the vocabulary we covered this semester is on there.

Test Thursday.

For the test, you should understand Mirrors, reflection, refraction, and Snell's law.
To complete the review work from last night and today, you should understand that the index of refraction can be determined by dividing the speed of light (c) by the speed of light in the material. Because most of you understand algebra, then you know you can also determine the speed of light in a material as long as you have the index of refraction number.
We can also detemine the angle of the light by following snells law. which is n1(SineAngle1)=n2(sineAngle2). If you have three parts, you can figure out the rest.
